London ~ Brighton Classic Car Run

The run for all pre-1984 Classic Cars

Mercedes-Benz World

Stirling Moss will be flagging off the run this year!

Professionally run, and now in its 21st year, the run is a memorable day out for classic car owners who enjoy driving their cars on country roads at their own pace.

The start for 2009 is the futuristic Mercedes-Benz World Museum at Brooklands, Weybridge, Surrey.  Easily accessible from the M25, M4 & A3, the stunning building is built next to the old Brooklands circuit, and displays some of Mercedes landmark models, including the Benz Patent Motorwagen of 1886.

Bluebell Railway

With a fully detailed and easy to read “tulip” style route book, entrants drive at their own pace through picturesque villages and along unspoilt minor roads to the official stopping point, Bluebell Railway.  Enjoy the nostalgic atmosphere at the first preserved standard gauge passenger line in the world.  This railway has an unrivalled collection of steam locomotives (30 trains and 100 carriages) making it an ideal break to buy lunch, visit the museum or go on a short steam train journey.

A different route each year gives you the chance to explore some of southern England‘s finest scenery with other enthusiasts.  Greeted by our commentator and up to 20,000 spectators, the hundreds of cars make a wonderful display on Brighton‘s famous seafront road, Madeira Drive, where the atmosphere is really buzzing.

THE FIRST LONDON ~ BRIGHTON CLASSIC CAR RUN took place 21 years ago.  The Run, for pre-1984 cars, is a touring assembly for enthusiasts from all over the United Kingdom and Western Europe.  Greenwood Exhibitions have been organising classic motoring events for the last 21 years, including outdoor events at stately homes including Knebworth on August Bank Holiday weekend.  The London ~ Brighton Classic Car Run takes place on Sunday 7th June 2009.  This professionally run event provides a memorable day out for all classic car owners who enjoy driving their vehicles, plus the chance to take part in one of the most impressive displays of vehicles in the unique setting of the renowned Madeira Drive on the sea front at Brighton.

The Route

A new route is devised each year giving entrants the chance to discover the beautiful villages and unfamiliar picturesque country roads in this delightful area of Southern England.

Stopping Point

Bluebell Railway, Sheffield Park Station, Uckfield, East Sussex.  Sheffield Park Station is the headquarters of the Bluebell Railway with its unrivalled collection of steam locomotives.  In August 1960 the Bluebell became the first  preserved railway.  Run participants can enjoy a walk around the engine sheds bringing you to close quarters with the engines at rest, awaiting restoration or their next turn of duty.  You can visit the small museum, a treasure trove of those little bits and pieces that were once commonplace on a train journey; or sample the experience of a steam train by taking a 15-minute ride.  Full catering facilities are available on site at the real ale bar, The Bessemer Arms, featuring appetising home-made food.

The Finish

Arriving in Brighton from midday onwards the participating vehicles make up a spectacular display on the picturesque seafront road Madeira Drive, which is closed to non-event traffic for the day.  They are joined on Madeira Drive by the Kit & Sports Car run who have reached Brighton by their own different route.  Autojumblers & Traders set up their stands underneath the arches and a top motoring journalist provides an entertaining & informative commentary for the participants and up to 20,000 spectators.
